    About Us

Dr. Bresnahan grew up in Long Island, NY.  As a young man, he learned the value of chiropractic care in a very personal way.  He injured his back on the job and received treatment from numerous specialists regarding his back pain, but received no lasting relief.  It was a doctor of chiropractic who finally found the cause of his pain and was able to help restore full and pain-free function throughout his body.  Having received such great benefits, he decided to become a chiropractor so that he could assist others in obtaining or regaining their highest level of health.

Dr. Bresnahan studied at Life Chiropractic College and graduated in 1984.  He and his wife moved to Virginia Beach and opened his practice in October of 1984.  He sought advanced training and attained certifications as a Chiropractic Sports Physician and a Chiropractic Rehabilitation Physician.  He also achieved diplomate status from the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists.  Most recently he has obtained certification in Active Release Technique.  This state of the art soft tissue treatment provides lasting solutions to many chronic and acute injuries.  He also has achieved certification in Graston Technique.  Dr. Bresnahan is a devoted husband and a father of two sons.  He is also active in his church.  He has a special love for people and donates several weeks of his time each year to medical mission trips.

Dr. Bresnahan is the treating chiropractor for many of our community’s athletes.  He has also been a treating physician for several Ironman Triathlons.  His advanced training allows him to perform gait analysis to determine and then correct many imbalances which can cause less than optimal performance.

Our office utilizes state of the art physical therapy and rehabilitation equipment to assist you in achieving the quickest and most thorough recovery possible.  Dr. Bresnahan and the staff participate in continuing education to stay abreast of the latest technology and legislation.

We also have several resources available to facilitate your treatment program. These include T.E.N.S. units, exercise balls, cervical pillows, ice packs, lower back supports, natural muscle relaxants, and glucosamine along with other supportive products. Please ask the doctor how they would benefit your individual condition.

Dr. Bresnahan is committed to educating as many people as possible regarding the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. In order to achieve this, he has set aside time for speaking engagements throughout the community. In the past, he has spoken to police and fire departments, city dispatchers, Lions' and Kiwana's clubs, and many others. Please call our office to arrange a date for Dr. Bresnahan to speak at your church, civic group, club, or other venue.

    To Achieve The Greatest Benefits...

In order to serve you most efficiently, we ask that you participate in your health care in the following ways.

    • Please sign in at the front desk each visit and report to the receptionist any change in your condition or personal information.

    • When you are called back for your appointment, once in the appropriate room leave the door open and lie down on the table. This helps your body to relax, which will make your adjustments more effective.

    • In order to make your time with the doctor more productive, please make sure you ask any questions while with the doctor (i.e. next appt, exercises, nutrition, activity level). We ask that conversation during your appointment time be limited to health needs. A special time can be set aside for counseling matters. This will help minimize your time spent in our office. Your adjustment may not take long; however, the effects will be lasting.

    • Depending on your individual condition, you may or may not receive therapy or participate in rehabilitation exercises. When you finish in the adjusting room, please either continue on to the therapy suite or to the front desk, verify that your next appointment is scheduled, and make the appropriate payment on your account. Please direct all financial questions to one of the staff, as the doctors do not handle these matters.

    • Make every effort to follow your doctor's instructions regarding scheduling, nutrition, exercise, and your activity level. If you have any questions about your care, please do not hesitate to call him or to talk with him while you are in the office.
